the byron shire and beyond - bangalow and alstonville...

this past weekend saw our first day of sunshine in almost two weeks, so what better way to welcome the sunshine than with a road trip into the byron bay hinterland? all of our friends have literally caught the ever contagious wedding bug, so stopping at a few wedding locations was on the agenda.

from the gold coast, we headed south to alstonville - about 20 minutes south west of ballina? the heart of the town was mighty small and consisted of perhaps 10 stores. it was idyllic with the huge trees making archways over the roads. macadamia trees and fruit plantations were abundant as were some amazing homesteads. one which was on the possible wedding venue list was so breathtaking (see pics below) that i literally couldn't take enough photographs.

we opted for a nice chilled out lunch in bangalow, to avoid the sunday crowds and parking headaches that come with visiting byron bay these days. we visited the lovely bangalow hotel for a lunch of burgers, fresh figs wrapped in prosciutto and anti-pesto platters before meandering through the little stores, with lazybones being my favorite.

pics. deux belettes french chateau in alstonville, our burgers at the bangalow hotel and a happy snap of lazybones.
