so long singapoo-poo...

our final days in singapore were spent in style. a nice and welcome change from backpacker central came when checked out of the cozy-corner backpackers and into the swissotel, the stamford, on friday. and it came not a moment too soon, after discovering the backward man... that’s right with shared bathroom facilities, the cozy-corner housed a man that showered in the toilet and went to the bathroom in the shower...

after welcoming dad on saturday morning, we had a lazy day wondering the streets of singapore and showing off a few of our favourite haunts; an typical asian cafeteria, the amazing $1 cones on orchard road, the un-missable mango store (which i just had to show him) all before persuading him to jump on a bus and head back to the hotel.

flying in late saturday evening, mum had little choice but to go with the flow on sunday which coincided with fathers day. we headed into china town for some yum cha and then opted to spend the steamy afternoon at the botanical gardens with a chilled bottle of french champagne, some fresh fruit and baguettes with salami and camembert cheese.

we started the evening sipping singapore slings and tossing our peanuts onto the floor at the famous long bar, at raffles hotel. next we went to clarke quay for some steak (our first in five or so weeks) and smoking apple flavoured sheesha at a funky moroccan bar. we ended the evening on a high note with a bicycle side-cart tour around the grand colonial district.

monday, dad treated us to a buffet brunch before kurt took me on a little ticky-tour of orchard road and got a new hair-doo, whilst mum and dad tended to some business. the evening was yet another unexpectedly fun one, where we drank and ate in little india. after meeting my old and dead friend sally, we had a drink at the prince of wales, aussie pub and then proceeded to a tradition barefoot indian restaurant. dining on the floor, around small intimate antique tables and nibbling on poppadoms and tandoori prawns was certainly the highlight of the night. good food, great wine and fantastic company. a fabulous way to spend a 23rd birthday, if you ask me.

pics. botanical gardens, night view of city, the clouds descend, unfortunate cab drivers name (mr. nung soon fatt) bus singapore to malaysia.
