singapore and malaysia highlights and lowlights...

the luxuries of singapore were short-lived as were the niceties of hot water, tea and coffee facilities and air conditioning were soon forgotten once we arrived in kuala lumpur. but on the whole the past few weeks have been filled by many new life lessons and laughs. here are some of the good and bad from the past few weeks.

lows...

1. warning you may dry reach when reading this paragraph: after going to the bathroom (number two’s) in the perhentian islands you were instructed to put any used toilet paper into a communal bin; just the thought was enough to make you gag, let alone actually lifting the lid and putting it into the bin and seeing everyone else’s used toilet paper – nasty...

2. getting to the showers last in youth hostels and not getting any hot water, even though you are paying extra for that little creature comfort, no matter how early you get up in the morning, there’s never any left

highs...

1. kicking back in the perhentian islands and swimming with sea turtles in the wild

2. watching kurt continue his morning coffee crusade; each morning at breakfast he orders a coffee, some days it comes as an instant, plunger, a cappuccino or a malay mix which smells and tastes as I suspect like dirt, cava and rice – its a highlight for me as a tea with milk is consistent and drinkable everyday

3. smelling and sampling some of the best cuisines the world has to offer in singapore and visiting some of the local kopitam’s and eating tradition yum cha and dim sum

4. driving through penang and seeing the charming french colonial influence that has been in the town for hundreds of years

5. watching kurt using his wonderful engineering and carpentry skills to build hermit-crab pens that they had to escape from - sometimes they defeated him and they would escape very quickly but sometimes he would be successful; however after losing interest after a few hours, they would dig their way out
