paradise in paradise...

we have been back in the caribbean for four nights now and have stumbled upon a cracking little spot. the jungle meets the ocean in this glorious town which seems to be the epicentre for hippies and backpackers, this side of costa rica. after an amazing three hour boat trip from tortuguero we finally arrived in puerto viejo de talamanca - which is home to surfers, beach-goers and mellow party-lovers.

after hiring surf boards, we had banked on a few days of calm-ish waves but unlucky for me, the swell increased significantly, so i only got one good day of surfing in. kurt on the other hand was in his element surfing six foot monsters at the infamous salsa brava, known for the nasty reef beneath the break. needless to say we saw a few snapped surfboards and a lot wipeouts today.

we have had beautiful weather most days but the afternoons get steamy and then it rains, which is a lovely because it cools things down. our primary mode of transport has been cruisers which have enabled up to do a lot of exercise while trying to find a few remote beaches to chill out and picnic. surf and sand aside, this spot is paradise. with the uncrowded waves and laid back lifestyle, we will definitely be coming back to this sleepy paradise.
